wow i just found out you were a yankees fan? is that true?

we've only mentioned it like every day this month.

putting a shitload of guys on base means you'll end up scoring a lot of runs AND leaving a lot of guys on base.

LOB isn't the sox specialty?

true, no other team leaves men on base.

espn just said the sox fans had no hard feelings about damon going to ny. ???????

SoSock said...

Great D by Lugo saves a run !

Amy said...

Let's not walk in a run. Orsillo saying Damon loves to get back at the Sox because of how things ended. Give me a break. He's just an opportunist.

Nice! Love to see him make the third out.

thatdietcokegirl said...

ya ya..
i think it has more to do with a W for himself rather than a W for the red sox.
but alls well that ends well.

mugro said...

maybe the yankees are being inspired by that ESPN show "Bronx is Burning" .....

nixon33 said...

come on dustin.

s1c said...

Is White Flag still warming up?

Beckett has to be done, I mean Francona wouldn't send him out for the seventh would he?

Sheesh....

Rob said...

NESN isn't any better tonight. It's Roger Clemens Appreciation Night and the Red Carpet all in one.

Amy said...

I am also surprised Beckett is in. But he looks pretty good.

Guess I spoke too soon...

thatdietcokegirl said...

i know it's lame, but i already feel this game is over, so i'm already gazing in the general direction of (our savior, who art in heaven..) curt schilling.

mugro said...

"just got home and found out that i got yes network."

So you must live within one of the circles of hell, huh?

s1c said...

pre 2004 s1c - fragging mfy's time to go to bed because the freaking sox can't come back.

white flag time

mugro said...

We rented what I thought was a pretty expensive house on the Cape a couple of years ago that had New York satellite television. No NESN. No red sox on tv. We were mightily pissed. We complained to the realtor.

Damn owner of the house was from New York.

We didn't rent that house again...

nixon33 said...

im not asking this in a negative or positive way, just honestly taking the temp:
does anyone have faith in schilling tomorrow?

allan said...

i have faith in him keeping them close (no savior stuff tho) -- and the bats to do some work for a fucking change.

thatdietcokegirl said...

nixon - yes.

nixon33 said...

we only need to win one.....ugh

Rob said...

does anyone have faith in schilling tomorrow?

I don't. It doesn't mean I don't think he can beat the Yankees. I just can't be confident he will. Especially with Chien-Ming Wang opposing him.

I'm torn.

Sarah Haendler said...

Yeah, I don't think Shill can keep them down on his own, but if the bats show up, he should be fine.

thatdietcokegirl said...

curt = the boy who lived.
yankees = voldemort.

Amy said...

I will keep focused on this game and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. It is only three runs, and we have six more outs. Foolish optimism, perhaps, but after 32 years, why not?

bennymac said...

"So you must live within one of the circles of hell, huh?"

yeah...in pa. sorry. there are a ton of yankee fans here who own a hat and feel they know baseball. in the end, they only own a hat.

Sarah Haendler said...

tdcg - I wanted to respond to that but then realized that harry potter spoilers were involved. That seemed mean.

Rob said...

The Yankees offense is just such a different animal, and Wang is their ace. Luckily the game's at 1:05 so we don't have to spend all day mulling it over.

allan said...

torre will yank his wang early tomorrow.

thatdietcokegirl said...

^5 amy ;D

i'm with you (no, i am)

just been a frustrating game. you kinda feel like...meh.

thatdietcokegirl said...

tdcg - I wanted to respond to that but then realized that harry potter spoilers were involved. That seemed mean.

*whistles* i don't know what yr talking about?

thatdietcokegirl said...

although sarah, that really is a fact in and of itself. 1st chapter, year 1 ya know?

Sarah Haendler said...

Redsock, the yank the Wang line never gets old. Never.

And bennymac - there are plenty of those hat owners here at the heart of hades too!

nixon33 said...

ok farnsworth. we should hit this fucker.

Rob said...

i think farnsworth needs a new prescription.

Sarah Haendler said...

Finally! The stupid show about cold war bunkers (no lie - I was missing the game for BUNKERS) is over. Potential homicide averted.

s1c said...

Schilling has usually done well stopping losing streaks, including this year. So I have plenty of faith.

bennymac said...

jeez...he's horrible. he hasn't had a good swing in a month...minus one home run.

s1c said...

There haven't been many times that you can blame francona for a loss, but with half of JOS questioning sending joshie out for the seventh this one will be one, if, and that is a big if, the sox don't come back.

fragging spankees, fragging tito

thatdietcokegirl said...

farnsworth is kinda cute

*fingers crossed for more!*

Amy said...

what is sasahe?

SoSock said...

OK, so now it's 2 in 3 outs, although 1 would be enough, because I think we have an edge in extra innings

bennymac said...

thanks!

Rob said...

I don't see why they're not going to Okajima right here. We have to cross our fingers with Timlin again.

laura k said...

ESPN IDIOTS!!!!!!! SHUT UP!!!

sorry

had to get that out of my system

Rob said...

OK, so now it's 2 in 3 outs, although 1 would be enough, because I think we have an edge in extra innings

Certainly have the bullpen for it. But you'd best get both runs in the 9th. Being the away team in extra innings is way too nerve-wracking.

SoSock said...

Ish - I think your cat says it best - WHY?

Amy said...

I like Tek not because of his hitting (or lack thereof) but because of his leadership as the catcher. I have always had a thing for catchers. Carlton Fisk started it all for me with the Sox.

allan said...

saving jeemer for the 11th.

Rob said...

Hinske, Lugo, and Pedroia in the 9th. Just might be able to use Kielty.

allan said...

i like how the espn dolts say the tigers (4 GB) are out of it but the yankees (7 GB right now) have almost clinched the division.

laura k said...

hey, we all have our reasons to like our favourite players. we were arguing about nixon here recently - many people's fave, inexplicable to me, but whatever.

catchers are cool :)

Rob said...

Well this was one of those fortunate Timlin outings.

And here comes the drama.

allan said...

1st 1-2-3 inning for the mfy tonight.

Amy said...

Nixon was scrappy, not afraid to get dirty, sort of a symbol of the Red Sox spirit, the Boston spirit. I think that's also the appeal of Pedroia and Youk...they curse, sweat, get dirty.

OK, we get three more outs to shame Rivera. Again.

allan said...

How have comments been? Showing up quickly?

laura k said...

yeah yeah yeah, scrappy, dirty, blah blah blah

sorry. i like players who hit and catch.

bennymac said...

ball was low and outside

Amy said...

LOL, L-girl!

s1c said...

Hinske, Lugo, Pedroia - time for the sox to come from behind in the ninth again. A man on and Papi comes to the plate 7/19 with 4 rbi's.

nixon33 said...

yeah players who hit clutch home runs.

laura k said...

i would like to note that for me, that is NOT the appeal of pedroia. he appeals to me because he is a good hitter and a good fielder.

sweat? curse? who cares?! (except man, can yook sweat, it makes my skin crawl to see it...)

nixon33 said...

and players who make clutch catches.

allan said...

i like how the red sox are teasing the mfy fans. making them think they are coming back in the race before crushing them.

that's so what they are doing.

nixon33 said...

is there a reason hinske is batting?

laura k said...

come on slugo...

Rob said...

It's amazing that nobody else has been able to throw a cutter quite like Rivera in all this time.

allan said...

Nixon was scrappy, not afraid to get dirty

He was afraid to hit LHP, apparently.

Rob said...

Come on, PED!!! You hit Gagné.. Hit Mo!

Amy said...

I was not suggest that the dirt and sweat appeal to ME (yuck), but I think the guys like it and probably some of the women as well. Like I said, I like Tek: clean, no cursing, no sweating.

s1c said...

is there a reason hinske is batting?

3 for 10 lifetime vs Mo.

laura k said...

amy, i understand. i don't get that kind of appeal myself, as you can tell. i like how when tek makes an out, he just goes back to the dugout, quickly and quietly - the same way he gets on base.

Rob said...

Anyone else sick to their stomaches? Maybe that was just my dinner.

Amy said...

oh well, gnite all

s1c said...

fragging tito, fragging yankees. In curt we trust.

laura k said...

ooo, a tie for the wild card... espn is acting like the yankees just clinched a pennant.

nixon33 said...

what a boring 9th inning.
i dont have any faith in schilling tomorrow. i hope im wrong.

Rob said...

Pressure's on Schilling tomorrow.

Not to be a pessimist, but if the Red Sox lose tomorrow, there will be a race once again for the AL East.

bennymac said...

bitch. oh well. they made it close. what happened to scoring 10 runs a game? i liked that.

SoSock said...

Anyone else sick to their stomaches? Maybe that was just my dinner.
Glad it's not just me.
I know - still 6 games up, but DAMN - it's the MF Yankees for christ's sake

Harleypeyton said...

The last thing in the world you want is the Yankees in the playoffs. Check Beckett's numbers against NY. Check Dice-K. Heck, take a look at Bloody Sock himself.

Time to root for Seattle, kids. Hard.

laura k said...

there will be a race once again for the AL East.

no way! you gotta be kidding.

bennymac said...

good night. hopefully the next time i post in this blog there will be a 7 game lead.

laura k said...

bloody sock??? have you forgotten the outcome of that series????????

thatdietcokegirl said...

curtains never should have been put up before this series, that's the problem. we don't need 'how the east was won' headlines and shit like that. guh, it bothered me right away when everyone went bonkers over our sweep of chi, like it was all over when meanwhile we had two more series' against ny and a month of baseball left.

tomorrow they are toast tho. curt FTMFW!!!!!!!!!

laura k said...

are you implying that if the yankees win the wild card, the red sox won't prevail?

we all want to see a yankeeless october, but if we don't, we will still win the AL pennant.

Rob said...

I think the worst will be over tomorrow, though. Good schedule for the Red Sox from here on out... Play the Yankees at Fenway one more time... BAL, TOR, BAL, TB, NYY, TOR, TB, OAK, and MIN.

allan said...

ooooooooooh the scary yankees. they always win.

jesus, stop listening to sports radio morons and chb.

6 GA.

allan said...

we can say it's over or not, it won't effect the guys on the field.

me? i wanna gloat as much as i can.

laura k said...

man, you guys are taking this so hard. we lost two games, we're SIX GAMES UP and it's almost september.

i'm sure not sick to my stomach, altho harleypeyton's comment made me sick

thatdietcokegirl said...

ooooooooooh the scary yankees. they always win.

it is hard to snap out of a spell. i think alot of ppl still think 04 was a fluke (sadly..i know)

s1c said...

FTMFW

ok I'll bite what the bleep does that mean?

Rob said...

Yankees have essentially the same schedule down the stretch. They've got SEA and KC and the rest of the AL East. We've got MIN and OAK for the final two series of the regular season.

I think we'll be fine, but its very interesting the way things are shaping up. Root hard for Seattle, for good measure.

nixon33 said...

ish, sometimes i feel like yr the only one who gets its.
very level headed.
i enjoy all of yr posts.

thatdietcokegirl said...

FTMFW

for the motherfucking win ;)

thatdietcokegirl said...

our schedule is more favourable.

Rob said...

L -- You'll like this one: The Phillies have beaten the Mets twice in the last two days. The NL East lead for those Mets is now down to 3 games.

Seattle goes to Cleveland tomorrow to make up one of those snow-days. One game and then will go to Toronto.

Rob said...

I think that's about enough baseball-mania for me tonight.

Remember the Sox's day-game record.

Jim said...

Frustrating game. Wish I had more faith in Schill ... if bullshit was lights-out stuff, he'd be fine.

SoSock said...

We are definitely still in control. Go 38!! Let's not let them get TOO smug before we knock 'em out.
BTW - before I hit the shower.
Thanks for the piece on Gagne, RS. As pissed as I was after he blew 2 late leads, in critical games, I still thought he would bring something to the team.
I felt like something was different lately with him, good to get a little validation.
Later

Rob said...

Thanks, nix. That means a lot. You guys have a good night.

Kyle said...

The bats will show up tomorrow night even though Clemens somehow managed to silence them tonight.

In my mind, this was the game we needed and should win with Beckett pitching. It's ok though. We made some noise in the late innings, just not enough.

Doesn't help that we don't have Manny playing (or Kielty who was starting to heat up).

allan said...

Good night!

Harleypeyton said...

L-girl, I apologize for making you sick, and, in truth, for trolling just a little. But I genuinely believe the Yankees are the better team right now, and that may well extend into the playoffs. It's hard to believe that they'll catch the Sox in the regular season, unless, and I repeat unless, Manny's injury keeps him out for an extended period of time. Then anything is possible, if only becuz this lineup seems prone to fallow periods offensively (and Ortiz won't see a fastball over the plate until spring training).

And yes I remember Bloody Sock's finest moment. It's burned into my brain. But for most Yankee fans, 38hotdogs is the guy we most love to hate. Which, you know, is part of being a fan.

andy said...

I am getting really sick and tired of the cutesy jeter at-bat. He does that girlish duck when the ball is inside. That really makes me want to see him hit hard on his helmet. Maybe it is because I a super focused on these games but I hate that fucking guy. If i see him scrunch up and run away again after an inside pitch I will throw a baseball through my TV.

laura k said...

ah, so harleypeyton was a troll. i wasn't sure and erred on the liberal side. when allan wakes up he can make the final call.

laura k said...

p.s. harleypeyton, i'm not a schilling fan myself. yankee fans have EVERY reason to hate him, double reasons (2001 AND 2004).

Rob said...

The Orioles scratched ace lefthander Erik Bedard from his Saturday start against the Red Sox because of a strained muscle in his right side . . . -Globe

allan said...

He does that girlish duck when the ball is inside.

The "jack knife ass jut".

He also does it when the pitch is two feet outside.

Rob said...

I think if there's anyone on the Yankees that you'd want to bean to send a message, it would be Jeter.

Would you ever see him charge the mound?

allan said...

38hotdogs

Heh. ... Various not insignificant athletic achievements aside, I can't stand Schilling much either.

Thanks for coming clean. I have no problem at all with the 1252 comment.

laura k said...

Would you ever see him charge the mound?

No. Never.
