Red Sox - 120 000 000 - 3 4 1Tallet had a rough time through the first eight Boston batters -- 42 pitches, three walks and two hits, including Rocco Baldelli's two-run home run -- but then something clicked (7-3-3-4-6, 118).
Blue Jays - 101 001 20x - 5 14 0
The Red Sox managed only two hits the rest of the game: Nick Green's double with two outs in the seventh and Mike Lowell's single off Scott Downs to start the ninth. None of the last 27 Red Sox batters made it past second base.
Runs scored by Boston in the last five games: 2, 2, 3, 3, 3.
Meanwhile, the Jays chipped away at Penny, who had only one perfect inning and again allowed a lot of hits (6-10-3-0-5, 102), to tie the game after six. Ramon Ramirez was slapped around in the seventh, as Marco Scutaro and Alex Rios (4-for-4, two doubles) both singled and Vernon Wells doubled.
Baldelli left the game in the fifth after banging his left knee (and his head) into the wall attempting to catch a ball that went foul.
The Red Sox and Blue Jays are now tied for second place, 1 GB the Yankees, who are in Cleveland tonight.

Brad Penny (5.96, 81 ERA+) / Brian Tallet (4.31, 104 ERA+)
Last night's loss dropped the Red Sox into second place, 0.5 GB the Yankees. The Blue Jays sit in third, 1.5 GB.
On Wednesday, May 20, Penny had a 6.2-9-2-1-2 line against the Blue Jays at Fenway. Over his last five starts, Penny has posted a 4.40 ERA.
Tallet faced the Red Sox on May 19. He pitched well -- 6-4-2-2-5 -- but Boston won the game 2-1.

I missed last night's game, but it sounds like there were a couple of bright spots.
Sean McAdam, reporting on Daniel Bard striking out five consecutive batters:
It was telling that Bard cited his breaking ball - and not his smoking fastball - for his overpowering outing. ...And: Adam Kilgore, Globe:
"I changed my grip between this outing and my last one," he said. "I like it. It felt good."
The pitch, a sort of hybrid between a curve and slider, had been, in Bard’s words, a "little loopy," recently. At the prodding of pitching coach John Farrell, Bard slightly rotated the ball in his hand, resulting in a pitch that broke later, with a more pronounced break.
David Ortiz nearly hit a grand slam on the first pitch he saw last night, a soaring fly ball that fell inches short of the wall and into an outfielder's glove. He blistered the next ball he hit so hard it nearly seared through the first baseman's mitt. ...
"All I can do about myself right now is laugh," he said. "Because I ain't going to cry. Laugh. Keep on swinging. ... I can't swing the bat no better than that."

LBJ also had a good game last night,
It seems as though the scouting report got around on Yook and Bay . It looks they get a first pitch curveball for a strike every game.....like to see them jump on those today...
I do NOT like the idea of being behind the Yankees.
I'm just sayin'. I'm not comfortable with this.
GOOD NEWS!
So ... radio only for me today.
Radio for me too. Can't thread, but I'm glad to have the game on while I get paid for some mind-numbingly boring work.
The game of baseball needs him to do the responsible thing and superhumanly whack balls over the fence whenever possible.
Amen.
Did Castig just say they were half a mile from Lake Ontario? They're a lot closer than that. OK, back to work.
The bit about Selig being crushed to death isn't bad either.
My wife got a iPhone. We're about to leave for Tahoe, but now I can GDGD the whole way with the MLB app. I can also see the video clips that have become a premium member thing. Might even get audio.
No threadin', though. Well, I guess I could through the browser, but tryin' to type on that thing...ugh.
Peace & go Sox.
also said they were practically on the shore.
and mentioned the island on which ruth hit his first (and only) minor league dong, back in sept. 1914
"also said they were practically on the shore."
That's more accurate!
"and mentioned the island on which ruth hit his first (and only) minor league dong, back in sept. 1914"
And I learned it wasn't even an island back then. Only became an island in 1954. Kind of cool.
Time to prescribe a double.
good medicine!
A quarter dong does the trick.
sounded unlucky. fuck.
still, 31 pitches for "severe lack of" tallet.
GDGD just put up the clip of Lowell's single. Those are not blacked out!
Single/E9 puts Hill on 2B and he scores on Rios's single.
1-1 after 1.
Gotta be a Gameday Premium subscriber. You probably already are to get the audio.
in the first inning, castig says tallet doesn't walk many batters and he's surprised by the three ball counts and walk to FY.
now he says tallet has walked 25 in 52 innings or so -- and says that's a lot.
I just typed gdgd to get to game day. that didn't work well.
I'm presumably in market as well and they've consistently had links for the videos in GDGD. I don't pay for the premium service or audio.
GONE
RICO BALDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RICO BALLLLLLDYYYYYY DONGGGG.
I see your run on my bobble
and raise you a 2-run dong.
BALDY DONG!!!! Way to make amends.
"I just typed gdgd to get to game day."
LOL
That helps make up for the error in right.
Me: "Yeah!"
Wife: "What happened?"
Me: "I think Rocco Baldelli just hit a home run for us." (I had just seen "In play, run(s)" and couldn't imagine Varitek scoring on less than a triple.)
Wife: "Well let me get the video for you."
Me: "Great."
I don't know if he'd have made it, but I'd like to have seen Green try a bit harder on that jog to first.
i hope to look at bard's outing tonight from the archived game.
Apparently in internet chat room slang, gdgd means "Good."
nice replay! inglett doesn't leap where the ball went over.
Allan - Well worth it. Bard does it so quietly as well. Don said he struck out his fourth straight batter and I said, "He did what!?"
FY's got his steal on lately doesn't he?
I get the links for video clips on GDGD, but when I click one, it makes me sign in and then says I'm not a subscriber. ($24,.95, please!)
But the iPhone app was only $9.99. I have the audio going on it now, choice of feeds. Nice.
I would be very interested in the iPhone myself if the monthly wasn't $99. Almost has to be a business thing.
If Penny is destined to be traded, I want to see his stock sky rocket.
a bit high and inside on that one.
Juuuuust a bit.
shit - a bit o' work.
At least you've got the radio to listen to while you do it.
bay > overbay?
I'll probably get pilloried for this one, but I'm gonna dive in on iphone pricing. I think it's all in how you break down the price.
I pay $60/mo. for my 1st gen iphone - $40 voice plus $20 data plan (includes 200 text messages). the 3G data plan costs $30/mo with no text messages. Same as any other "smart" phone. to go to a 3G iphone (or any smart phone) my plan would just to $75/mo (including extra $5 for 200 texts).
I think it's more of a question of "smart" phone vs. "dumb" phone than iphone vs ,say, blackberry when talking about pricing.
The carriers are still screwing us on text messages which cost them next to nothing to send and are, for some reason (profit), excluded from "unlimited data" plans.
bay over overbay.
Oh, wow, I wake up, and it's already the third inning...
Good morning, all.
Good morning, Ofer. Where are you? Hawaii?
Hey, waking up at 11 on a Sunday is normal. Even a little early, I 'd say.
Anaheim, BTW.
a bit up and in.
Heh. West coast was my second guess.
What time zone is Hawaii, anyway?
That last strike a gift? Radio guys were very surprised.
Hawaii is on... Hawaii time. -10 GMT.
8:21 AM in Hawaii.
OTT. We need more runs.
crap. a ball to the knee for FY. I like the way they yanked him up by a fistful of jersey.
castig: "throw to first, runner back standing"
DRINK!
I also like "Runner back with a hand tag."
Baldelli just crashed into the wall with his head and his leg and he immediately was holding onto his leg. Checking things out. Looks like a burn or a scrape. He's wearing a brace on the knee...
Baldelli's out of the game, Drew's coming in.
drew in.
hill held his helmet on the sight.
Gunned down!
was that varitek's first throw out?
Replay showed he got him.
looks like before today, he had thrown out 10 of 42 (19%)
I guess I just remember the other 32. same way I felt like tek was a master of the GIDP last year.
but whatever. don't go waving your facts at me.
don't go waving your facts at me.
"We're watching baseball and facts have nothing to do with it."
They closed the roof! Random.
Showers in the Toronto area.
roof closed and lind pulls out his dong
Rico bruised his knee and is going for x-rays.
least he didn't do it out in the open. still, they showed it on TV.
"We're watching baseball and facts have nothing to do with it."
I'd say you should use that as your tagline, but it would confuse new readers.
I do like it as a tagline.
Sarcasm in a tagline might be ill-advised.
Plus, why honour an idiot commenter!
What is the point of having a retractable dome and artificial turf?
It's tempting. I think I'll just keep using it in comments!
It's not turf anymore, it's that semi-natural stuff.
But the point is if the weather is bad, you can keep the dome closed and the grass won't die. And if it's sunny, you can feel like you're sitting outside.
I hate indoor baseball, but the retractable roof makes it so much better.
some of the best quotes come from idiots. May not be the best tagline, but I like the humor of it for anyone who does know of Allan's fondness for (baseball) facts.
"some of the best quotes come from idiots."
And from Morans! Another example of best quotes from idiots.
Ram-Ram
ah yes, Morans! idjuts.
Speaking of which, I hate this commercial. what the fuck is wrong with a little "uh, man-step" on a big-ass pickup. machomoranbullshit.
I like the calmness in ram-ram's eyes. practically stoned-looking. good counterpart to paps.
"what the fuck is wrong with a little "uh, man-step" on a big-ass pickup. machomoranbullshit."
I HATE all this man-this and man-that. The worst, to me, is man-hug. Why not just wear a sign: "I'm insecure about my sexuality!"
bah
god is 4-for-4 today. more proof of his godliness.
double bah.
nice leap by tek!

It's fieldturf, which is artificial but better than astroturf. With a retractable roof, you should be able to have real grass, because you should be able to keep the dome open most of the time (unless it's actually raining during a home game).
hey sox - wtf?

My lawn gets full sun , and I still have trouble growing grass.....

Regardless of what city you're in and how many non-precipitating days it gets a year? How could that be true?

A lot of people like to hug hello woman and men, I hate that, so I am just insecure ......:)
F'in Hat trick
Is League Asian?
"A lot of people like to hug hello woman and men, I hate that, so I am just insecure ......:)"
Not my point. When a man hugs another man, having to call it "a man hug," rather than just a hug, is a way of saying, "I am going to hug this man, but I am not gay!"
Two men can hug. Period. It says nothing about their sexuality, and men who are not insecure about their sexuality know that.
You might not like to hug, but that's irrelevant.
Brandon League born in Sacramento, Calif.

glad you got my point...........

I saw that, that doesn't exactlly rule out if he is Asian or not, does it?

The dots are catchin' on...
Born in the US means he's American. You mean is he Asian-American? Or of Asian descent?
dots are highly catching.......
