Yankees Become First MLB Team To Blow Leads In 7th, 8th, 9th, & 10th Innings Of Same Game

Yankees - 000 000 111 23 - 8 11 1
Royals  - 000 000 111 21 - 6 10 2

I know it's a Yankees win and the game included the dreaded EIR, but this linescore from last night is still very cool. And extremely historic.

It was the first game in major league history in which both teams scored in the seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh innings.

The Royals became the first team in the modern era (since 1900) to erase a deficit in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth innings of the same game. In the eleventh, Kansas City had the potential tying run at the plate with one out and the potential winning run at the plate with two outs, but could not score again.

Which means, of course, that the Yankees are the first team in the modern era (since 1900) to blow a lead in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth innings of the same game.

Four Yankee pitchers recorded blown saves! It was the first major league game in which four consecutive pitchers were charged with a blown save*. It was the first major league game in which a team (MFY) had five pitchers eligible for a save. . . . The fifth time was the charm in this case.

It was also the first game in Royals history in which they had a game-tying hit in the 8th, 9th, and 10th innings.

*:  The Astros blew four saves against the Cubs on September 28, 1995, but they were not charged to consecutive pitchers.

Astros - 101 031 120 11 - 11 17  0
Cubs   - 023 001 120 12 - 12 19  0
