Schadenfreude 368 (A Continuing Series)

Facts:

In postseason history, teams taking a 2-0 lead in a best-of-5 series have gone on to win that series 80 of 90 times (88.9%)
In Division Series w/current 2-2-1 format, teams to win both G1+2 at home have advanced 31 of 34 times (91.2%), incl 20 sweeps

The Blue Jays scored 20 consecutive runs between Yankees runs
They're the first team in postseason history to score 20 consecutive runs within a series

The Blue Jays' 23 runs are the most by a team in the first two games of a single postseason

Which also means . . .

The Yankees are the only team in major league history to give up 20 consecutive runs within one postseason series.

The Yankees are the only team in major league history to allow 23 runs in the first two games of a postseason series.

Vladimir Guerrero Sr. & Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are the only father/son duo in MLB history to each hit a postseason grand slam.
Senior: October 8, 2004, ALDS G3, Angels vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park
Junior: October 6, 2025, ALDS G2, Blue Jays vs. Yankees at Skydome

Trey Yesavage:
31 swings, 18 misses
That 58% whiff rate is the highest in a postseason game under pitch tracking (2008), min 25 swings

The Blue Jays have 8 home runs and 7 strikeouts so far this postseason
They're the second team in postseason history with more home runs than strikeouts in their first two games of a single postseason, joining:
2005 White Sox, 6 homers & 4 strikeouts

On the cusp of YED? . . . That's true!

Some fan comments at the Post:

I'm getting the impression that the Yankees aren't built to win in the post season.

How many thousands of times, people, former players, analysts and fans-- need to point out that the long ball, high strike out, lack of producing runs without the homerun-- does NOT work in the playoffs.

Bob James
Actually 40% of runs scored in the playoffs are from home runs since 2000. Problem really is Yankees can’t hit good pitching.

I guarantee the Yankees are winning the next 3 games. I’m putting 500 on the Yankees to win Tuesday . Put some money on the Yankees. Thank me later.

No more half measures
Why not just give me the money now.

I'm pretty sure that the Yankees would have lost if Trey Yesavage's MOTHER was pitching for the Blue Jays today.

Stink Pot Turtle
The Yankees very barely survived a crippled watered down Red Sox lineup with really only 5 guys who can hit. Jays 1-9 are solid and lead the AL in hitting. This was inevitable.

Yankee Clipper
Maybe Buck Martinez was right after all .

Judge has started his off-season beard lol

Coco Brown
I wish today was a double header so I don't have to waste my time watching them lose on Tuesday

Organizational failure top to bottom. But sadly, nothing is going to change. Hal still gets to count his money; Cash is set for life as long as profits are up and Boone will still be in the dugout because he follows orders from Cash and the anonymous analysts (who probably never played the game). Sad that this storied franchise has sunk to this. You own this abortion, Hal.

If we followed the old adage that "If you have nothing good to say, say nothing" this article would have zero comments.

NYKFAN
At least Luke Weaver got an out to lower his ERA from infinity to 135.00

Pete
They playing like there still hung over from celebrating the Boston series.

The only way Aaron Judge will ever see "The Canyon of Hero'" is from the back seat of an Uber.

Greg
Judge is in his mid 30s now and will be running out of time to win a WS. His best bet would be to get Boone out of the organization.

Charlie Mack
Just lose on Tuesday and wrap this up. Save us some time.

Scott Zimmer
Could the Yankees be any more delusional? Good teams don't get no hit by a rookie pitcher and look lost doing it. Judge continues to be useless in playoffs. Boone has no clue how to get this team going.

No offensive game plan. No coaching. Yankee hitters watch the first strike pitches go by only to strikeout swinging at garbage way outside of the zone. They are an undisciplined, free-swinging pitch-guessing unit with no visible offensive game plan.

Barry Rindner
You have to give Toronto credit, they are great contact hitters. The Yankees on the other hand will only hit top of the line pitching if the pitcher is just having a bad day. Regardless if they can get through Toronto, there are a number of great arms in front of them that they couldn't hit a pitch with a two-by-four. Again, this team is built like a 1960's Yankee team. The pitching in the majors is too good to rely on leading the league in homers every year. Throw out exit velocity. A .220 hitter that launches a baseball at 112 mph is rather useless when competing against top pitching talent. The Yanks today couldn't hit a rookie throwing splitters for 5 innings. Why? Its because all those long loopy homerun swings doesn't allow the batter time to adjust to the split. The Yankee batters assume its a fastball, start their swings early and miss the baseball as it drops.
