Red Sox - 001 001 000 - 2 6 1An annoyingly slow, crappy loss.
Twins - 003 001 00x - 4 13 1
5-9-3-3-6, 102. Does that Dice line surprise you? However, he did lower his ERA to 8.82.
Jacoby Ellsbury singled twice (22!) and stole two bases and scored the third inning run. Jason Bay homered (#14) in the sixth. Mike Lowell singled twice. David Ortiz went 0-for-4 (K, F8, F8, PF3).
The Red Sox tied a modern record with six wild pitches, four by Matsuzaka (2 in the 1st and 2 in the 4th) and one each from Manny Delcarmen (6th) and Justin Masterson (7th). Also, all three Boston pitchers have nine-letter last names.
The Yankees beat the Rangers 9-2, so Boston and New York -- both 27-20 -- are tied for first place.
***
Daisuke Matsuzaka (10.32, 47 ERA+) / Kevin Slowey (4.23, 101 ERA+)
Lineup:
Terry Francona:Ellsbury, CF
Pedroia, 2B
Drew, RF
Youkilis, 1B
Bay, LF
Ortiz, DH
Lowell, 3B
Kottaras, C
Green, SS
I can see our lineup being a little fluid for a little while. I can see us moving around a little bit here. Youk could hit third, we could hit [Dustin Pedroia] third -- there's a lot of things we could do. ...
In the next few days ... we may not have our full lineup. We are on turf, we have some quick turnarounds, we are going to see how guys come through these games and how they are swinging, how they feel.

Like Carlton Fisk or Jason,
he don't fuck around.
currently spinning "set the controls for the heart of the sun".
I believe it will stall the twins and let loose a torrent of dirty water.
Now that my computer has decided to stop shitting the bed, I see we're now up to 6 wild pitches.
Can we please call up Dusty Brown? I've preferred him to Kottaras for a while now.
I have enjoyed watching other baseball games more than I have enjoyed watching this one.
It's not like it's 6 passed balls. George's job is to catch Wake and it's been an All-Star year for him.
okay, i want to set a new modern record of 7 WP.
and win.
Is that a major league record or a Red Sox record for wild pitches in a game?
ties a modern MLB record
Bay, tying run, late innings.
ARGGHH.

Well, at least we can say we had fewer men LOB than MN.
The Assman episode is on right now.
I was just thinking what Don just said. We might actually have a OTT inning.
And...so much for THAT.
nope
Okay, Nathan, you're due.
Rays down 10-7, after going up 5-0 in top 1.
What are the odds we can score two (+) runs against Nathan? There must be one of those weird stats for figuring that out, right, Allan?
1977-2006
games with home team up by 2 in top of 9th: 5978
home won: 5651
94.5%
generally speaking, we have a 5.5% chance.
1 out - 2.4%
Thanks.
And I bet it is even lower with one out.
but our lineup is better than average. And Nathan's a fuckup who blows games when he sees pinstripes so maybe he'll do it here.
1977-2006
2 outs, 0 on, up by 2 runs
games: 3325
home won: 3302
expectancy: 0.993
I liked the idea of having Ortiz play first base - wish it could work out better for him to do that. He's not a bad fielder but there are better fielders ahead of him. Give him a sense of purpose even if he's not hitting. Feel more in tune with the game, could translate to the bat.
But that won't happen. Not until interleague anyways.
Anything is possible, Jere, but not likely.
Two outs.
The water is clean.
Goodnight everyone.
Well, at least the game is over.
Good night, everyone.
Ask Dave Roberts about not likely
Now 12-7 Cleveland over TB. Yanks up 9-2 in ninth.
We're still the only team in baseball to not have scored exactly 1 run in a game.
bleh. g'night all. I shall focus on the radio... siltbreeze.
Why does it seem that Dice-K was so committed to representing his country and pitching his way to the MVP of the WBC, when his commitment should have been to get ready to pitch for the team who is paying him millions of dollars. Two months of unproductive pitching, including a stint on the DL, not too mention the money they are paying him, is the price being paid because of his participation in the WBC. If he was so committed to representing his country and pitching in the WBC, he should have stayed in Japan instead of coming here and stealing the money. Right now, I feel like that's what he's doing.
And, why is it that he seems to be so stubborn on the mound when it comes to shaking off the catcher and basically pitching his own style when it is strongly suggested that he adapt a little more to baseball in the U.S.
I think it's time for Red Sox management to start being a little more firm with this guy. Who's the "employer"?
I don't know about anyone else but, now that he's beginning his 3rd season here, I'm expecting a lot more from this so called phenom.
Remember all the hoopla when acquiring him?
Yes, I know that he won 18 games last year, but he wasn't exactly dominant for all of those wins. He had a lot of run support.
I'd rather be waterboarded than watch him pitch.
As a fan, so far, I feel cheated.
Disappointed and Disgusted!
What's everyone else's opinion?

You have to score more than 2 runs to win a ballgame......Dice is hard to watch....I have nothing else.....
Every guy who played in that stupid WBC did it by choice, and all of them were trying to win for their country. If Dice had stunk in that would you still blame his performance so far on it? When Pedro struck out those dudes at the '99 ASG, it was this great moment that we all loved, but then he had one of the worst starts of his career next time out.
I don't blame Dice's attitude toward the WBC--I blame baseball for having the stupid thing in the first place.
And after that start (9 runs in 3.2), Pedro went on the DL.
Unless there is some clause in his contract that I do not know about, the Red Sox can certainly forbid Dice from pitching in exhibition games. I'm assuming they allowed it because they were getting daily reports and have people in Japan anyway and Dice was on pitch limits.
The whole "stealing money" is a bit much.
