Manny Ramirez hit a first-pitch, three-run home run in the first inning (giving him 100 RBI in 99 games), before leaving the game in the second inning after a collision with Edgar Renteria in short left field.
Tony Graffanino and Jose Cruz each got two hits at the bottom of the order. Four Red Sox relievers (Myers, Bradford, Timlin, Schilling) retired the final nine Royals, allowing nothing to be hit out of the infield.
The Yankees lost to Cleveland 7-4, so Boston's lead in the East is now 4.5 games. It's the Sox largest lead over the Yankees since a five-game edge on May 10, 2002.
Clement returns this afternoon at 1:00.
