deGrom Sets MLB Record: 12 Consecutive Starts With One Or Zero Earned Runs (ERA: 0.50)

With his five shutout innings on Monday, Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom posted his 12th consecutive start in which he allowed one or zero earned runs. It's the longest single-season streak by a traditional starting pitcher in major league history.

deGrom passed bob Gibson, who had 11 straight starts with one or zero earned runs in 1968, when he finished the season with a 1.12 ERA. deGrom's ERA is now 0.50 and he has not allowed a run in his last 30 innings.

0.50! . . . His ERA+ is 777! . . . How is that even possible after 12 starts?

deGrom is also the first pitcher in Mets history to give up one or no hits in three consecutive starts (of any length). His starts have been six, three, and five innings. (He left his last start after three perfect innings because of right shoulder soreness.)

The first batter of the game is 0-for-12, with eight strikeouts.

Overall, batters are 27-for-139 against him: .113/.148/.205.

Also consider that he has more RBI (six) than runs allowed (four). In 27 at-bats, which includes eight strikeouts, he has a .407 batting average and a .444 slugging percentage.
