Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted:
Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman said he would attend their mandatory workout if he definitely was going to be on their postseason roster.
The Yankees could not give him that assurance.
Chapman stayed home in Miami.
The Yankees told him to stay there.
His Yankee career is over.
That's a shame, because Chapman has been shit this year: ERA of 4.46, worst WHIP of his career, and 7 walks per 9 innings! I'll miss him.
Jack Curry (YES) reports: "Scott Effross was excluded from the ALDS roster because he had an elbow issue . . . he will need Tommy John surgery. Major loss for the Yankees . . ." If Chapman had not gone AWOL, he might have been picked to filled that spot. lol
Calling Bucky Dent? 1978? . . . The Red Sox should be Calling Aroldis Chapman! 2019 and 2020!(Note: I added fun links to the 2019s and 2020s.)
In 2019, Chapman gave up an AL pennant- and season-losing home run to Jose Altuve.
In 2020, Chapman gave up an ALDS- and season-losing home run to Mike Brosseau.
In 2021 . . . can Chapman (aka Mr. YED) go for the hat trick? I'm sure that won't be on his mind at all. . . . The MFY say they have confidence in him. (So does Rafael Devers.)
Chapman did not appear in that game as Boston won handily 6-2. And he won't be available to be the 2022 Goat.
I'm confident someone else will step up.
