G155: Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 3

Hansack pitched quite well (5-6-3-0-2, 80), allowing only three balls out of the infield before surrendering back-to-back home runs to Lyle Overbay and Troy Glaus in the fourth. That gave Toronto a 2-1 lead (Dustin Pedroia had led off the game with his 2nd home run).

Boston tied it at 2-2 in the sixth on Jason Varitek's one-out grounder, but Trot Nixon bumbled on the basepaths and was caught off second for an inning-ending double play. Hansack allowed two hits to start the home sixth and was relieved. One of those runners scored and the Jays added two more runs off Mike Burns in the eighth.

Manny Ramirez walked in a pinch-hit appearance in the seventh. In addition to the home run, Pedroia singled, walked and lined out twice. David Ortiz singled twice, as did Mike Lowell.

Good thing Manny PH - it gave Jays announcer Jamie Campbell an excuse to take some potshots at him. Rance Mulliniks stepped in with a bit of defense (taking batting practice is not the same as playing in a game...) but they quickly cut to the in-the-stands guy, who enlightened us on what a "circus" Manny is, and practically quoted Edes without attribution. I guess "let Manny be Manny somewhere else" is the new catch phrase.

Hansack looked good. Except I keep thinking his name is Hackysack, so I'm predisposed not to like him.

I already had the game muted by then. Mulliniks is a lot better than Tabler, but Campbell is horrendous. He's the canuck Michael Kay. He's like a 10-year-old who tries to act like the big kids by talking-in-a-deep-voice. You could say he takes poetic license, or you could just say he makes shit up.

Ouch.

You're right.

I had just turned the sound back on! That's what I get.

I was about to also post "Ouch". :>)

The man we call "Buffy" is certainly annoying, but he has a way to go before he is in Kay's league.

(You're right about using his "serious voice" though.)

L-girl, if you're still going to the game Monday, please put "Buffy" on the list.

AWWWWW, Uncle Biwwwll!!

It hit me as soon as my sleepy head met the pillow. Uncle Bill, French, Jodie and BUFFY! Was it called Bachelor Father? Yes, our Jamie is a ringer. Now that was good, wholesome family value stuff. What made me gravitate towards Trailer Park Boys?

Actually, it turns out that Buffy was the girl -- so Jamie should be Jody -- but that just isn't as funny and little-kid sounding.

And I thought the boy was Buffy when I started calling him that, so it stuck.

(If you see him at Skydome and start yelling "BUFFY" at him, I'll bet he'll know why.)

Jeez, how the memory plays tricks. But yeah, he's a Buffy.

Way to go Woti, getting the Buffy reference! Only one quibble, it was called "Family Affair". Brian Keith played Uncle Bill, Sebastian Cabot played Mr. French.

(And Buffy is playing Announcer.)

There was an older sibling, too - named Cissy. My sister and I thought that was hilarious, because that was our word for pee. :)

And just in case you're interested: Family Affair.

Ah, Family Affair. Once again the fog of time is lifted. Thank you, L-girl. And as the fog lifts, I know why I gravitate towards TPB.

Was too young for Family Affair the first time around, but caught it in the late 90s or so on TVLand or something. And I remember wanting to put my hands through my screen to scratch those kids' faces off.

I was in a car when Manny pinch-hit, and Trup was announcing. His reaction: "Holy shit!" (may not be exact words)
