G138: Red Sox 14, Orioles 2

Orioles - 000 100 001 - 2 8 0
Red Sox - 004 610 21x - 14 20 0
A perfect night.

Red Sox win -- and the Rays, Twins and White Sox all lose. Tampa's lead in the East is cut to four games and Boston's lead in the WC is now four games over both Chicago and Minnesota.
Yankees 7, Rays 2
Blue Jays 7, Twins 5
Spiders 9, White Sox 3
***

Radhames Liz (6.95, 63 ERA+) / Jon Lester (3.41, 132 ERA+)

Liz faced the Red Sox on July 12 and they totally abused him: 2.1-6-8-3-2, 61. In his 21-game major league career, he has allowed 89 hits and 61 walks in only 81.2 innings -- a whopping 1.789 WHIP. More destruction should occur tonight.

Lester faced Baltimore about two weeks ago, on August 18: 7-4-1-1-5, 103.

Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett both seem on pace to return Friday night in Texas. Lowell thinks playing on Friday is "a legit possibility". J.D. Drew could come off the DL today, but he's not ready.

Dustin Pedroia scored 33 runs in August. Last night, he set a new Red Sox team record for hits by a 2B (he has 184, breaking Del Pratt's 1922 mark of 183).

FY has also stolen 17 bases in 18 attempts; his 94.4% rate is the best in the AL among players with at least 15 attempts. If he can maintain that rate, it would be the best for any Red Sox player with at least 10 attempts since 1956.

Also at 7 PM: Yankees/Rays, Twins/Blue Jays, and White Sox/Spiders.

The shot of Papi forcibly nursing Pedroia is something.

Ish, what is the significance of your comments about memory being used? And how can you tell?

I love the internet, but I still have no clue how it all works!

If you press control+alt+delete, then go into the "processes" tab, it'll list every program that is running, and tell you how much memory it's using.

Rob said...

That's Papi's way of channeling his power into Pedroia.

Rob said...

So tomorrow the Orioles are going to piece together the entire game with the bullpen.

Benjamin said...

Shemp single. 6-1 MFY.

Rob said...

How about Papi, huh? 3 for 3, 4 RBI

Rob said...

Guthrie has been scratched for tomorrow's start because of arm fatigue.

Rob said...

This year will not be without a big Red Sox/Yankees postseason series.

Pawtucket Red Sox will play the Scranton Yankees to begin the AAA playoffs tomorrow.

In fact, four Red Sox minor league affiliates have reached the playoffs in their leagues.

Benjamin said...

Kotsay's quietly having a good night too.

SoSock said...

Hey, hey, hey, love to come home to these kinds of scores.
Almost Timlin Proof!

Rob said...

Hmm. When you re-load the game thread, Chrome automatically scrolls down to close to the bottom of the screen.

SoSock said...

H & R with Tek?

Amy said...

Thanks, Ish, re checking memory usage. But what do your comparisons of Firefox and Chrome mean? Chrome is supposedly using less memory, right?

I just am not sure I like the interface. E.g., it isn't obvious how you print a page. Is there a home page option?

I guess there isn't much to worry about in the game if I am asking these questions.

Rob said...

It seems like Chrome is using the same amount of memory no matter what you do. Firefox fluctuates depending on what you do. Seems like Chrome uses less memory for the most part.

Rob said...

Well now all of a sudden, Chrome has like, 7 instances open. So it is using more memory. Cock.

Rob said...

Chrome just froze up on me for the first time.

SoSock said...

Crispy DP :(
Yook scratched - still sickly or something new?

Rob said...

Red Sox record after 137 games...

2008: 80-57
2007: 82-55

Rob said...

Hey, Sosock. Youk was scratched just before the game started - back spasms.

SoSock said...

Back spasms.
Yeesh, can we get any more banged up?
maybe I shouldn't ask that.

Rob said...

Gasp. A Red Sox catcher using a hockey-style mask.

Rob said...

Tomorrow will tie the all-time sell out record.

Rob said...

Which is good, because every game, they keep talking about it how many straight sell-outs there've been.

Not like they're going to just, stop, though.

SoSock said...

So, the new kid uses the hockey mask, eh?
Almost all my little leauers do now. Well, the ones who catch as their regular position anyway.

Amy said...

Also, where are my bookmarks/favorites?

So far I am not seeing any advantages to this, and I face a learning curve that I have no time to deal with except during a laugher like this one!

Jere will be there. He figured out quite a while back, or more likely read somewhere, which game it would be and has had tix for a while.

Rob said...

So wait... is Cash the DH now?

Rob said...

Yes he is.

Amy said...

Even Cash getting hits.

SoSock said...

Good looking updates RS.
If all scores hold it's a 4 for 4 night :)

Amy said...

I am definitely in love with this guy.

Rob said...

Come on. Have you ever seen a guy hit the ball like this? It was shoulder-high!

Rob said...

I love Hernandez's reaction.

SoSock said...

Don't know if I agree with pulling Tiz. Sure, you wouldn't want him to get hurt at this point of a blowout, but he seems to be getting back in a groove. Let him roll!
Other side - he's 3 for 3, let him stop while he's on a high. Keep it going tomorrow.
Who knows?

Rob said...

Who in the American League has a better show NOW; better deserving, than Pedroia for MVP?

Rob said...

First major-league ribeye for Van Every!

SoSock said...

Pedroia > anything you can name.

5 RBI already.

Rob said...

Crazy like a fox!

Pepe Lepew said...

I am definitely in love with this guy.

OK, 5 RBI night is pretty good. On PTI, they had a really funny discussion this afternoon about whether HY should be insulted by Ozzie Guillen calling him a "jockey." They concurred that he should take it as a compliment.

re: chrome

You can select to have a home page button in options. Also in the tools menu is a developer menu with a task manager built in. It will show you down to the process what is using the memory within chrome. So you can see what plugin or what frame is using the most memory. They will add a button bar soon i think so there will be a print icon. They just wanted to get it out with the simplest interface. What is good is that when it freezes it should only be one tab. if you dump that tab the rest of the browser still works so you dont lose everything you were doing.

andy said...

The up scroll with a touch pad is not working Amy. I sent it in as a bug.

SoSock said...

I believe this officially qualifies as a good old fashioned ass-whupping.

And to make it even better, one of the ladies from Temple brought some home-made chicken soup that is absolutely devine. HUGE chunks of fresh cut chicken that flake off your fork more like a good salmon would.
mmmmmmmm

Rob said...

Heh. Another blog writer I read once in awhile calls Sarah Palin the "Glenn Geffner of politics."

SoSock said...

Ish, who would that be? I might have to pay a visit :)

My sister, who is a devout republican, spoke of Palin thusly
"OMG, have you checked out gal he chose? She's conservative and I mean SCARY conservative. And I'm not one to be scared by conservative, but her, I don't know."
That's awful damn close to verbatim. But I still doubt she'll vote for Obama. dammit

andy said...

Looks like we will move up on everybody today. What I noticed is the Rays would always win when we did and lose when we did for the most part.

laura k said...

Hi all. Just got home. I see I missed some fireworks.

Rob said...

Sosock: here.

SoSock said...

This really is getting to be a joke.

Thanks, Andy. I was starting to wonder whether it was my touchpad, except that it works on Firefox.

I will stick with Firefox for now. One thing that surprised me is that Chrome does not include even the Google Toolbar. I rely on it for my bookmarks, which were not imported into Chrome. Not worth the trouble to recreate them.

As with VCRs, digital cameras, cell phones, I will wait til everyone else has it and they improve it before getting hooked!

McCain's VP pick

Just look at this picture and picture this woman as the vice president. And furthermore, if McCain croaks... the President!

SoSock said...

Thanks Ish. I believe I've been there before. Bookmarked now.

Was it here or at Soxaholics maybe where I saw the link to VPILF?
Hilarious - especially the shirt that says - VPILF ; Just a hearbeat away from being pilf

Pepe Lepew said...

Hi all. Just got home. I see I missed some fireworks.

HY has 5 RBIs!

Rob said...

I wonder what they think of the comments section of blogger. The font size discrepancy.

Pepe Lepew said...

Heh. Another blog writer I read once in awhile calls Sarah Palin the "Glenn Geffner of politics."

I have a feeling by the time all is said and done Thomas Eagleton will be a better analogy.

laura k said...

HY? You mean FY?

Rob said...

more like VPILFBINWBSSCWPSMIIA... VPILF that I never will because she's so conservative and will probably shoot me if I asked...

Amy said...

Wow, that picture is scary. But the thought of McCain as president is even scarier.

Rob said...

Although I wish she'd get contacts. Can't stand those glasses.

allan said...

Shatner loses the DH, probably will not matter.

Amy said...

Pepe doesn't use foul language, Laura, so he calls FY Heck Yeah.

laura k said...

You guys wait til I'm not around to talk about wingnuts?

Rob said...

Well, her bikini sure does reflect McCain's campaign slogan of "Country first"... I wonder if she's standing on the Alaska/Canadian border, just waiting for someone to sneak out of the country. Or in!

laura k said...

Heck Yeah? Cute.

allan said...

QUIZNOZBALLA

Rob said...

Actually I brought up Palin about five minutes before you showed up. Good timing!

Amy said...

Her rifle scares me more than her bikini.

Benjamin said...

Wheels.

allan said...

what is that - pedroia's 85th 3-hit game this year????

andy said...

Amy the bookmarks thing should have imported them when you installed the browser unless you had firefox going at the same time then it would not. If you go into options you can tell it to import the bookmarks. Blogger is a google app so they will probably fix the text. I will send it in too.

Rob said...

283 total bases for FY... Bobby Doerr's record 304 for RS 2B in 1950.

andy said...

I am excited about Palin. I can look at her for days. It's about time an attractive person is in washington.

Rob said...

Only bad part about it being 14-1.. FY probably won't steal here.

Rob said...

20 hits. Love it.

Rob said...

Pauley's faced four men... They've all grounded to Lowrie.

Benjamin said...

I don't find secessionists sexy.

Jennifer Granholm's sexier. Plus she was born in Vancouver.

Rob said...

Five! Only this time Lowrie couldn't get it over there in time.

Amy said...

Andy, it imported by Firefox and IE bookmarks, but I use the Google toolbar on the other browsers, which has its own bookmarks that travel with me wherever I have a computer with the Google toolbar. Chrome did not import those or the toolbar.

laura k said...

Secessionists could be sexy if there were from Vermont. Or Staten Island.

Benjamin said...

Infield fly, but no IFR.

Rob said...

Castro didn't run... Pauley was able to play soccer and still get him out.

allan said...

I am excited about Palin. I can look at her for days. It's about time an attractive person is in washington.

You must have been ga-ga over Coulter.

Benjamin said...

Staten Island secessionists are republicans, though.

laura k said...

True, but I couldn't wait for them to make good on their threat. Our loss would have been our gain.

Benjamin said...

Baby Pedroia.

Benjamin said...

He isn't a hair taller today.

Rob said...

Does Cindy McCain remind anyone else of the Stepford Wives?

Benjamin said...

Water.

Rob said...

First round of dirty water is on me!

andy said...

Amy the toolbar will come. This is day one. They will fix some of what we talked about tonight.

allan said...

Perfect night.

We win and the Rays, Twins and White Sox lose.

4 GB in East
4 GA in WC

Benjamin said...

These are all great.

Benjamin said...

FKR are still in the bottom of the ninth, albeit down 7-2.

SoSock said...

Is TB a final yet?
I just don't trust those damn Yankees, even with a 5 run lead.

Benjamin said...

GDGD has the Jacoby "assist" from the top of the 2nd.

Benjamin said...

(The video, I mean.)

Benjamin said...

Peña up with two out in the bottom of the ninth.

laura k said...

Phil, thanks for that link, great stuff!

SoSock said...

Of course, the only mark against this perfection is that the MFY had to win to accomplish it. But I can live with it, and even hope they win again tomorrow. Though if we gain another game tomorrow it'll be hard to pull for them to sweep.

Rob said...

Rays lose!

Benjamin said...

Baby Paps.

Rob said...

The bottom line is the Red Sox need to win... You don't lose ground if you don't lose. You can root for the Yankees all you want, as hard as you want, as long as the Red Sox win.

Benjamin said...

Rays lose!

True, dat.

Benjamin said...

Baby Papi.

Rob said...

Remember that wild ATL-FLA game?

Top 9th...

ATL 105 404 00 - 14 18 3
FLA 300 640 01 - 14 15 0

Routine grounder in LA for Angel Berroa... He fields it, goes to throw it, but the ball fell inside his shirt!

22 of A-Rod's 30 home runs this year... Solo shots.

Rob said...

Lieberman: "John McCain is no ordinary candidate."

Made me snicker.

andy said...

A-rod hits homers like lugo hit singles, when they don't help.

I was watching the RNC too. The major nets were stepping all over Fred Thompson and he is actually entertaining.

Amy said...

Phil, those baby Sox photos are so cute! Almost as cute as my Tek avatar!

Pepe Lepew said...

Today was a good day.
Red Sox won.
Evil Rays lost.
Chisox lost.
Twinkies lost.
Yankees won (Neh!)
and the co-chair of the Repubnican party called Sarah Palin "Sarah Pawlenty."

Benjamin said...

Solo shots.

He's batting behind Damon, Jeter, and Abreu.

For what it's worth, here are the OBP rankings:

1. Red Sox (.360)
2. Cubs (.357)
3. Cardinals (.351)
4. Rangers (.350)
5. MFY (.344)
6. Tigers (.342)
7. Braves (.342)
8. Rockies (.341)
9. Mets (.340)
10. FKR (.339)

First time Atlanta has allowed 14 runs and won since July 1951.

andy said...

You know what? Good luck does not last into October. I think the Rays will look stupid. I would rather face the Angels for 5 games and the Rays for 7. No the Central team will not make it out of the first round but good things do happen sometimes since those teams and the Rays are about the same level in my opinion.

Sara said...

Can we just give the MVP to Dustin now? Love the blog! :) Go Sox!

nick said...

kinda late here, but the person who was going with me to Wednesday's game is not. So, I have one extra ticket to the game.

Any JoSer want to meet up and get a ticket off me (face value)? Unless you moved somewhere else, you'd be stuck sitting next to me in section 16. Bonus point if you're somewhere around western mass and want to ride with me.

Good luck doesn't play at .618, either.

Is there anyone watching baseball who still thinks the Rays are doing this with smoke and mirrors??

andy said...

Their averages are not that good. They are ahead of their expected by quite a bit. They just are not that solid in my opinion.
