First baseman Lars Anderson has been called up to the Red Sox.

His 2010 stats:
               GMS AVG OBP SLG OPS
Portland AA 17 .355 .408 .677 1.085
Pawtucket AAA 113 .262 .340 .428 .768
He was an 18th round pick in the 2006 amateur draft. He turns 23 on September 25. And he reads. Like, actual books.

Lars! Yay.

And he reads. Like, actual books.

Not only hot, but smart, too. What more can you want in a baseball player.

You would like to think you are seeing a future Red Sox star in Lars, but you really aren't are you?

Yes, I would to see as many Red Sox players as possible be all-stars -- and I have no idea if he will be. But he's got a better shot than most minor leaguers.

He also knits.

Evidently he was once asked how he'd like to be remembered and he said he wanted people to say "There goes the best knitter who ever lived."
