WS 3: Red Sox 10, Rockies 5

Red Sox - 006 000 031 - 10 15 1
Rockies - 000 002 300 - 5 11 0

Red Sox lead series 3-0
For the first time in World Series history, two rookies had at least three hits each in a World Series game. Ellsbury went 4-for-5, with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, while Pedroia was 3-for-5, with one double and 2 RBI.

Lowell singled twice and drive in two runs, Lugo doubled and walked twice, and Matsuzaka knocked in two runs with a single in the six-run third.

Colorado closed the Red Sox's lead to 6-5 in the seventh when Holliday blasted a three-run home run to dead center of Hideki Okajima's first pitch. Jeemer then allowed a single, but got three straight outs to end the threat. Boston answered with three of their own in the top of the eighth -- with one out, Lugo walked, Coco Crisp singled, Ellsbury doubled in one run, and Pedroia doubled in two more.

Jon Lester takes the hill tomorrow night as Boston goes for its second straight World Series sweep. ... (Did I just type that?!!?)

Well, I do think that the Rocks are capable of scoring some runs in that stadium. But they've got to be pretty disheartened at this point.

Man, it was great to see Dice get those runs in.

Manny was out...in style.

laura k said...

Amazing, the first time the Rockies' pitcher comes to the plate, the starter is already gone. Wow!

Gotta love the stereotypical Japanese music played when highlighting the Japanese newspapers. Way to be PC Fox.

Zenslinger said...

Did no one tell these assholes that having that koto music on while talking about Japan is really goofy? I caught a moment of that last night and wondered if I was hearing right.

Colin said...

Manny was out...in style.

And when it boils down to it, isn't that what matters? Getting out...in style?

allan said...

yeah that music pissed me off the other night too. jeez.

s1c said...

30 balls

And that was with a wide, strike zone!

Looking good so far, but this is colorado where no lead is safe. Still, I feel like Aurebach and am heading for my humidor!

laura k said...

Manny is nothing if not stylish.

Plus it was a great excuse for the Mediots to rag on his hair. (Not that they need an excuse.)

Benjamin said...

THAT'S NOT A GYROBALL YOU FUCKING MORON.

allan said...

mcmoron still believing in the gyroball. must believe in the tooth fairy and CHB curse, too.

allan said...

guys, the towels ain't workin'.

nixon33 said...

dicek looks fucking sharp!

allan said...

fox said pitchers who hit and run the bases at coors will get tired.

so dice fans morales and matsui -- ho hum.

Colin said...

guys, the towels ain't workin'.

Don't let them hear you saying that (j/k btw). Keep wavin' 'em Colorado!

laura k said...

i am psyched for dice-k next season. all his adjustment issues will be worked out, and he will be awesome.

s1c said...

guys, the towels ain't workin'.

Oh, I don't know they are white.

nixon33 said...

PAPI WITH THE STRETCH!

he cant field!!!!!! THE FOX GUYS TOLD ME SO!!!

allan said...

and jeemer will also get his shit worked out. he should be better!!!

s1c said...

Oh, yeah, its my favorite Vitamin water Commercial. I crack up every time I see this.

Shuttlecock!!!!

SoSock said...

Buck sounds amazed that Papi can play 1st.
Jeez, he IS a major lg. ballplayer, ya know

Colin said...

I do love this VitaminWater commercial...as silly as it may be. Papi pounding fists with Urlacher and doing the HR point-up.

tim said...

M-Fer, I want some VITAMIN WATER!

Sir Jahmez said...

Papi doesn't only field, he plays mad badminton.

allan said...

M-Fer, I want some VITAMIN WATER!

:>)

Zenslinger said...

I don't know if his adjustment can be as dramatic as Beckett's. But I could see something like 17-11, 3.85 next year and 19-9 3.25 the next.

laura k said...

hey tim is back! how was dinner tonight? tests all done?

tim said...

apparently my first comment got lost in the interwebs.

it went something like this:

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

just got in from dinner, listened to the good inning on the way back, including good ol John Miller announcing it was 5-0 Colorado.

Dice looking good, won't be threading tonight but will drop in with the odd comment or two.

s1c said...

Yep, I am getting tired of the Ortiz can't play first crap. Ok, he's no Youk over there, but he is a lot better than some others I can think of (millar, giambi).

Papi needs to go deep here, just to rub it in.

allan said...

M-Fer, I want some VITAMIN WATER!

"Ortiz is black but he played that first base just like a regular human being." (/o'reilly)

s1c said...

hey tim is back! how was dinner tonight? tests all done?

Obviously he hasn't had enough to drink yet though, he hasn't said anything funny (j/k).

nixon33 said...

I HOPE MANNY GOES DEEP.

laura k said...

manny, whadda ya say you get that run back for us here?

tim said...

"Ortiz is black but he played that first base just like a regular human being." (/o'reilly)

Hahahaha, he wasn't out there shouting "MF'er THROW THE BALL OVER HERE!"

tim said...

hahaha, no pregame shots for this one. working on a glass of beer now though. anyway off to watch the game!

Colin said...

A lineup that does not let up

Smartest thing I've heard from those guys all night.

allan said...

fox, i assume by saying "barrett got the call right," you meant he got it wrong. right?

Benjamin said...

The ump complained that Manny hadn't touched the plate. But the replay clearly shows Manny touched the plate. But Buck/Fuck keep praising the ump's call.

Gambrinus said...

I doubt the sox will pursue a-rod, but...if they did, wouldn't it make sense to move him back to shortstop?

s1c said...

I think the Sox have to offer Lowell a three year deal. Besides, its not like the Sox have a third basemen in the minors that is making salivate like LBJ and Buchholz.

Zenslinger said...

The call on Manny was correct. Torrealba tagged his left hip before Manny hit the plate with his left hand. He was behind the plate until then.

laura k said...

lowell for 3 years, wow. i don't even want to see him for one, but no more than one.

i know most disagree with this.

but whatever, like ish said, back to the real game.

Colin said...

Is House the best show on television?

No.

laura k said...

Every October I get SOOOO sick of the Fox previews. It's the only time I ever see any of those shows.

Benjamin said...

That House clip repackages one of the oldest jokes around (guy tells doctor it hurts when he does something; doctor says don't do that). Is that supposed to be edgy?

Rob said...

I think the Sox have to offer Lowell a three year deal. Besides, its not like the Sox have a third basemen in the minors that is making salivate like LBJ and Buchholz.

I agree. 3, and if he's iffy, offer him a team option for 4. Lowell is the best third basemen out there. I mean, there are third basemen, and there's A-Rod. A-Rod is not a third baseman. He's a hitter who happens to be a third baseman. But see, Lowell is showing that value as well. Think about it... You're going to be paying $20 million more per season for a guy who will have 20 more home runs and 40 more RBI than Lowell. You could keep Lowell, and if you need to, you can improve offensively at other positions to compensate for the difference that A-Rod would bring. But why would you need to?

The only way I see a guy like A-Rod coming to Boston is after Manny leaves. Someone to protect the Flo.

laura k said...

Edgy - I think it's supposed to show how irreverent House is. His fuck-you attitude.

Hugh Laurie with the worst fake American accent ever.

Benjamin said...

So does Daisuke have more rbis this postseason than Coco?

allan said...

Rockies on hot streak

Same as Drew, Manny, Peewee
Hey - Dice as DH?

laura k said...

I love Hugh Laurie, I'm a huge Blackadder fan. But man, I just think he sounds ridiculous.

I've never seen the show, only the previews. It looks like the same show all the time.

s1c said...

WE ARE WATCHING THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVSION!

Nope, can't agree, I have to listen to two morons as part of the show.

laura k said...

well yeah, i meant the *real* show

kokaku said...

Why would the Sox want to spend the kind of money it would take to get A-Rod? And would he even fit it with a team like the Sox? I live in NYC and all the coverage here makes him sound like a real prima donna.

thatdietcokegirl said...

lg is right. WS owns all right now.

s1c said...

Why would the Sox want to spend the kind of money it would take to get A-Rod?

Because he is the best hitting infielder in baseball and will probably break Roses and Bonds records. Plus, Luccino absolutely fragging loves him.

laura k said...

forget televison, on EARTH!

:-D

allan said...

what a breaking ball.

43 outs to go!!!

it would be great to get him. even tho i all 'hate' him now cause he's on the yankees. (w/e) no question he is one of the greats. and how cute/awesome/kickass would it be to see him interacting with papi and manny on a daily basis?

tim said...

Yook looking like my buddy who went to Alert, Nunavut (CANADA) for a co-op work term.

A bevy of fastballs?

s1c said...

no nibbling tonight by the dice man!!!

Wonder if Atkins is gonna get a steady diet of fastballs too? Eh? Eh?

...Wonder what the carbs are like in your standard Japanese fastball.

allan said...

A few Sox blogs call Youkilis Yukon Cornelius, from the Xmas special.

Yoooookon?

laura k said...

Can you eat steamed spinach on the Atkins diet??

s1c said...

WTF happened there, did he lose his slot?

The worst he's looked all night.

nixon33 said...

it'd be great if we got a-rod and then he did FANTASTIC in a postseason for us while we WON ANOTHER WORLD SERIES!
A big middle finger to the yankmees

tim said...

lmao, Youkon cornelius!

laura k said...

bye bye rockies! we may not even let you get your one run tonight.

s1c said...

Daisuke looked pissed that he walked that guy. Thats good

tim said...

Can you eat steamed spinach on the Atkins diet??

Pretty sure you can eat steamed spinach on ANY diet! But Atkins is a carb cutting diet I think, very unsafe.

SoSock said...

Maybe a PLETHORA of fastballs?

tim said...

Some asinine comparisons, well maybe not so asinine:

Dice K with as many RBI in the postseason as the entire rockies team.

As many RBI as Arod+Jeter.

ugh, there it is. DO DO DO DOOOOO.

that building-lighting thing was sweet tho. a litttle more advanced than the pru there ;)

Yeah that was pretty awesome, the mountains.

Colin said...

Nice work Drew!

Once again with the Sergeant Major crap. Shut up Fox, knowing the rank structure and all that, shut up. He's the Captain and he'll always be the Captain. Don't fucking demote him.

s1c said...

Well off to work, will catch up with you guys once I get all set up!

Erin said...

Captain to Sergeant Major is quite a demotion. Takes away your officer status and makes you enlisted. I know I might be the first to say this, but McCarver is a bit of an idiot.

Colin said...

Yeah as an Army officer, if I were demoted to Sergeant Major from Captain (though I'm a 2LT)...I'd be fucking insulted. McMoron at it again. Can someone euthanize him?

tim said...

Can someone euthanize him?

Please, it's for the greater good.

RBI GODZILLA on deck!

thatdietcokegirl said...

dice-k on deck. be afraiiid ;))

SoSock said...

They better be careful with Slugo - look who's on deck :>

Colin said...

Wow Dice-K's gloves are the whitest gloves I've ever seen. They're like parade gloves.

tim said...

ok, i think my comments are getting lost. internet is wonky here (wireless) so just wondering...

tim said...

Nope, there it is.

allan said...

whiter than slappy's hamburger helper gloves? say it aint so

laura k said...

Sorry if there was a delay, folks. We had a little connection trouble here. Seems fixed now.

Dice definitely just ran down the line, bat in hand. Awesome.

Radio nowhere commerical music eh?

Colin said...

Good point redsock. I didn't notice the black on the three other fingers from the middle to the pinky. I take back my comment.

I know I might be the first to say this, but McCarver is a bit of an idiot.

Indeed. It's always worth saying.

laura k said...

biiig scary outfield again.

"This component is temporarily unavailable. Please refresh your browser to re-start it. If the problem persists, please close and then re-open your browser, or e-mail support@website.mlb.com for assistance."

yeah, i'll email. maybe mlb will answer me by next all-star game.

SoSock said...

LOVE that they went for the DP on the fly-out - made him run for it

tim said...

I've gotta say, this lack of Rockies innings hasn't been good news for Joe Walsh's royalty income.

tim said...

HERE COME THE ROCKIES!!!!!

SoSock said...

Waddya think - a little more effort coulda got it, or not?

laura k said...

Sosock, no worse than anything Trot would've done.

tim said...

Trot may have booted it causing at least one run to score.

Nice swing, casual Matsui.

allan said...

fucking A

lugo with the force!!!!!!!!!!

Colin said...

Good D work Lugo/Lowell.

laura k said...

OUT at third!!!

Lugo man, that was great.

tim said...

Nice!

SoSock said...

HELLUVA PLAY !!!!!

thatdietcokegirl said...

i luuv me some good defensive plays ;))

laura k said...

Casual Matsui, we say that too. Casual Friday Matsui.

tim said...

Suckaaaaaaaaaaas!

laura k said...

"Trot may have booted it causing at least one run to score."

I concur :)

Rockies manage to get a man to third NOT. Beauuuutiiiful.

allan said...

Still only 4 men to third base in the entire series for the Rockies.

Damn, this WS shit is easy!

Colin said...

Rockies get nothing with that. Good defense work guys!

Question...should Dice-K stay in the 6th?

laura k said...

I'd keep him in with a short-ish leash, sure.

Anyone?

allan said...

83 thru 5 in his last start of the season. i say yep.

Zenslinger said...

I'm trying to come up with rational reasons why I don't want A-Rod on our team.

Well, first -- it probably won't come up. The Yankees will keep him, even if they have to go back on their statement that they wouldn't go after him if he opts out.

But beyond that? Part of it is liking Lowell at $12m over A-Rod at $30m. I mean, I know that A-Rod is more likely to have the kind of year he had this year than Lowell is to have the kind of year he had this year. But...$18m better?

And, think about it -- A-Rod's going to want 8, 9, 10 years. A big risk.

Best in the league? Best ever? I don't want him. I can't say it's rational, I know he's great. It would be weird to learn to love him. Somehow. I mean...he's the slapmeister, y'know?

allan said...

I'm trying to come up with rational reasons why I don't want A-Rod on our team.

If you come up with one, let me know.

laura k said...

Well, if you want to come up with reasons not to want Alex Rodriguez on your team, they would have to be irrational reasons. Doesn't make them wrong, of course.

But if you want to make your team as good as possible, you want him. If you want to like all your players as much as possible...

I figure everyone would learn to like him.

allan said...

Lyndon has as many hits tonight as the Rockies team.

tim said...

Just read the ofer spinach duty, nice!

Glad someones lookin out for priorities.

Colin said...

It'd be a helluva tough transition going from not liking him to liking him. I know a lot of t-shirt makers/sellers would have a lot of recalls on their anti-Alex Rodriguez products.

allan said...

What?
A team came back from 0-3?
Tell me more!!!

laura k said...

I would love to see him at 3rd. It would be fucking incredible.

I'm not expecting it, but man I would love it.

allan said...

gameday has returned.

SoSock said...

...should Dice-K stay in the 6th?

Well helllll yeah, I say
Then again, I didn't wait for the double digits to open the wine tonight, so what do I know?

tim said...

As much as I think he's a douche bag, I would love to see A-Rod at third in Boston. He's so good, the numbers don't lie. His fielding is obviously shittier than Lowells, however I'm sure it could be worked on...He has made some nice plays before. I think Lowell had a career year this year and his numbers will drop off, definitely not worth 3 years. One, ok. Two, maybe. But if they have the chance to get A-Rod, I say A-Rod > Lowell.

Wtf are they chanting?
"OHHH! ROCKIES????"

seriously, the way they're saying it sounds like a question.

Colin said...

I do like that Miller High Life guy. He's funny.

Rob said...

Lyndon is the second player in World Series history to hit two doubles in one inning. First AL player. Matt Williams was the first to do it in 2001 with the Diamondbacks against those MFY.

tim said...

i.e. "Whose in the world series?"
"Colorado and Boston."
"Colorado has a baseball team?"
"Yeah, the Rockies."
"Ohhhhh! Rockies?"

Rob said...

There's Youk at first.

allan said...

Yook in.

Tonight: The Joy of Six.

tim said...

Yook in, short sleeves, nice!

laura k said...

i'm so tired, i gotta get out of the game thread and just watch the game.

just assume i'm laughing at all the funny comments and agreeing with all the smart comments.

Rob said...

seriously, the way they're saying it sounds like a question.

Jon Miller seemed to think they were chanting, "Dyansty? No!"

Zenslinger said...

I'm admitting they're not rational reasons. I don't really believe in the "clubhouse cancer" thing or the idea that he cools a team off. But I don't care for him. I don't like the attitude and mindset that produced the Slap. There's some quality I like to think the Red Sox have that doesn't jibe with A-Rod. Let the Yankees have the burden of having the best hitter in baseball for the next ten years. I'd rather have someone else out there.

tim said...

Jon Miller seemed to think they were chanting, "Dyansty? No!"

They showed a fan during it, saying the "Rockies?!" part.

Erin said...

That "Go Rockies" (or whatever) chant, besides sounding like a question, is also incredibly sloooow, which, correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't do a whole lot in terms of rallying. Not a lot of energy being that, you know?

Rob said...

Sounds more like they're chanting "Are we beat? No"

I don't know. I know you are getting beat though!

tim said...

Fucking canadian fox. just cut to MAD TV for a pitch. I had to get out of bed to get the remote and everything before they cut back.

tim said...

Jeeze, even a "Lets go roc-kies! Bah, bah, Bah! Bah! Bah!" would be better.

Red Sox did a good job of keeping the crowd in it? No, that's cause the crowd isn't full of fairweather fucking johnsons like it is in colorado!

s1c said...

just assume i'm laughing at all the funny comments and agreeing with all the smart comments.

That is assuming we make any smart or funny ones as we start to reach the happy dance time!

John Miller made that Lugo to Lowell play sound like it was fragging awesome. Guess that is what the NESN post game show is for!!

Well yeah. But they have to sync to the global feed for simulcast shows so they show the canadian commericals...thats what happened, then someone was probably like "nooo! switch it back!"....er yah.

Erin said...

Uh-oh Dice-K. Damn. I'd love to see him get through six.

Colin said...

And props to Dice-K for a good 5 1/3 innings and a 2-run hit.

tim said...

Booing Lopez. Good ol' "Lets just boo whoever has a different color uniform than ours" uneducating booing.

Rob said...

There's some quality I like to think the Red Sox have that doesn't jibe with A-Rod.

I agree. He's done quite a few questionable things with the Yankees, like the whole slappy thing, the fighting, yelling at infielders when they're catching a pop-up... Look at where the Red Sox are right now. They have a 2-0 lead in the World Series. Soon to be 3 games to none! They're going to be enough of a prolific team next season with a more experienced Dice-K, a healthy Ortiz, etc etc etc. Buchholz... More Ellsbury...

I just don't think the Red Sox need a guy like A-Rod. And to be perfectly honest, it'd feel more Yankee-like to get him. Not because he was with the Yankees, but signing that enormous of a contract right after you've won the World Series, etc.

thatdietcokegirl said...

Colin said...

Damn. Come on bullpen. Let's just get them out. I can't blame Lopez too much b/c of the setup. I'm sure Fux Sports is elated though.

DAMN !!!

Erin said...

If you ask me, Dice-K would have been just fine, even with two runners on. No one could touch him, and I doubt Hawpe would have done anything but strike out against Matsuzaka. This could become a game very, very quickly.
